The Greek aspect

The novel is set in Camden College. However, we note slight alterations to the setting to fit with the Greek theme

• The novel revolves around a group of Greek students. These students are separated from other students by all means possible. They form their own small world within the college where they seem to be the only people each of them interacts with.
• The class they study in is the Julian’s office. It looks like a reconstruction of the classes in ancient Greek. It is decorated with Greek art, scented like Greek homes etc

The characters are selected carefully like in the case of Julian’s class. All of them have an obsession to learn Greek art, literature, history and culture

• All the main characters are people who are obsessed with learning Greek. They give up every other aspect of their lives to concentrate in Julian’s classes.
• The characters have escaped from their real lives and intend to make a change in their lives by joining this class
• Henry could be seen as a depiction of Machiavelian Greek leaders. He rules with a high hand and makes plans to kill Bunny when he fails to follow his rules.
• Henry has devoted his life to studies in Greek that he gains prowess in it. He understands every aspect of it and, for instance, solves a question that had been failing the rest of the team in an instant
• Their teacher, Julian has a great affection for all aspects of Greek.

The plot revolves around the six characters. It is also prompted by an attempt to perform a Greek ritual that turns fatal

• The plot revolves around six Greek students and their devotion to their studies. The crisis arises when four of them attempt to perform the Bacchanal which is a Greek rite that is regarded as very dangerous due to its “blood thirst” god.
