The relationship between organizational strategy and HR activities in a business is critical to shaping the direction of a business. The organizational strategy should factor in employees and their welfare as evident in the King Company case. Employees, through HR practices, procedures, and policies should be subject to constant motivation using compensation, benefits, and other techniques that will consequently lead to the boosting of employee performance. According to Isosim, Iancu, &Popescu (2010), communication plays a very critical role in this process.[WM1]
The concept of assessing a market to ascertain its suitability to provide sustainable labor to a new facility is critical. In the assessment of Detroit as an investment center for a tech company, it became apparent that understanding the labor dynamics of a market is critical in making the choice of whether to invest in the particular area or not. The understanding of labor trends in the market and the factors that influence the dynamics of labor either positively or negatively should be at the grip of the HR manager. This understanding will inform HR managers about the behavior of the market and eliminate any challenges in operationalizing the new facility.
Time-away from work policies as an HR concept allows employees to take time off from work. The good side of this policy is that it allows employees to erode dissatisfaction with employment leaves. Additionally, the policies help in crafting guidelines touching on rules and expectation that the employer regarding the time an employee should be at work. As such, each organization has its unique policies to this effect. This policy is significant to an HR practitioner as it provides a means through which an organization is able to retain talent and traction of the employees as explained by Scott (2018). The HR department should provide time away from work in a manner consistent with the organizational strategies and objectives.
Assignments in this course have helped a great deal in reshaping my perceptions of the role of HRM in the private sector. The assignments have been structured around cases, which help in thinking along real-life scenarios. My abilities to evaluate and make conclusions about scenarios touching on my professional life have become real. The element of having the Detroit case and evaluating it on a real-life basis has impacted on me the need to stay informed on the real happenings especially in areas that might be of interest in the near future.
