Recovered Memories

A recovered memory is one that was repressed but has been remembered. The repressed
memory was one that was pushed in the unconscious and would not be remembered when a
person is conscious. Recovered memories can also be said to be the emergent repressed
memories. In a different definition, a recovered memory is one that was a forgotten memory after
an occurrence of a traumatic event such as sexual abuse experienced during childhood and is
recalled many years later. The memory may be recalled using an outside influence and it
sometimes appears to be a false or invalid remembrance such as the ones in the two cases of the
text.
Hypnosis is an induction of the consciousness state where an individual loses voluntary
action power and highly responds to suggestions or directions. In therapies, hypnosis is used in
recovering the repressed memories or to make a certain behavior to be modified through
suggestions. Consciousness is the state where an individual is aware of the surroundings or can
be said to be awake.
Do animals sleep? Animals have times that they spend their time quiet and with very
minimal activity. These are the times when one may find the cat, cow, goat or even chicken
slumbering. Animals do sleep. Research shows that rats map their navigational routes in order to

get food when they are asleep, during the REM stage. Animals sleep in differently, that is, some
sleep while standing, others float, puppies twitch and bats sleep up-side down. Like human
beings, mammal animals do sleep and most of them dream during the REM sleep. While
sleeping, the behaviors that cats exhibit indicate that animals sleep and dream.
Progressive and recurring dreams. While asleep, individuals experience different types
of dreams. Progressive dreams appear when an individual experiences a sequences of dreams
which go on over the nights. These types of dreams are interesting because an individual
continues dreaming from where they had left off the previous time. Recurring dreams on the
other hand repeat themselves with little changes occurring within the theme or story. The dreams
are sometimes positive but often consist of nightmares. The dreams recur since the conflict
within the dream is ignored or remains unsolved. A solution to the dream’s conflict brings the
recurring of the dream to an end.
Losing teeth. Most individuals experience dreams where teeth are lost. The teeth crumble
in hands and start falling off one by one when lightly tapped. Once they are lost, the individual is
left with an image that lasts for long throughout the day. Loss of teeth relates to various things:
they may represent vanity and occur when one fears rejection or feels unattractive because teeth
are used for flirting; they may also relate to something that an individual is not communicating;
they may also relate to the fears of being embarrassed; also relates to lack of power, poor health,
lack of money or even deception.
Extrasensory perception (ESP). There are some people who feel like they have more than
five senses and possess a sixth sense. A sixth sense does not exist. Individuals are right that they
can sense anything about their environment but that does not mean that they possess a quasi-
magical additional sense. This feeling of extra sensing arises from the way the thoughts of an

individual are made to believe. If questions were raised on the difference of what was there
before and after a given situation, it is usually difficult to tell the difference.
Déjà vu. Deja vu does not have a clear explanation. It has been thought that Déjà vu
appears when there is a mismatch within the brain of an individual when attempting to create
perceptions of the world with an input that is very much limited. In Déjà vu, there is some sort of
mix-ups in the memory inputs and the manner in which one recalls the output. Various theories
have been raised to try explain Déjà vu. It can be a malfunctioning of the short and long circuits
of the brain and information is leaked out because it bypasses storage sections.
Lucid dreaming. This is the kind of art that makes individuals conscious of their dreams.
In Lucid dreams, individuals are asleep and are aware of their dreams. When they are conscious
of their dreams, they interact with them and control them in a manner that they like. I think this
one is important because an individual can access their deepest parts of their minds. One can
experience the dreams in a conscious manner.
Remembering dreams. There are no many individuals who remember their dreams.
However, those who do it are far off better than those who do not while both are conscious.
According to studies everybody dreams but in reality, very few can narrate whatever they dream
on a daily basis. The composition of the brain determines who can remember dreams. The high
recallers usually utilize a larger part of their brain thereby making their remembrance easier.
