Racism among the White Community
Over the past decades, the issue of racism has been a subject to controversial debates. A considerable number of arguments have ensued from both its opponents and proponents. Similarly, several institutions; both governmental and non-governmental have also arisen to address various racial issues that have left the black community at an anguished state. Such issues include but not limited to the American’s decision to enact rules and regulations that prevents all non-American citizens from entering the country and even deporting the illegal immigrants staying in the country. However, the recent general presidential elections held in the USA revealed the realities behind racism, as some candidates could articulate for their white issues first. Also, racism has been observed in other parts of the world such as the European nations, where black people get prejudiced due to their skin color (Bazelon, 2018). The same sense can be traced back into the days of the slave trade, where racism was at its peak.
Most importantly, based on the choice for this topic has also been influenced the course materials that we have covered recently. One of such resources if the Get Out film by Jordan Peele. A critical review of the film indicates several issues of racism that revolves around a black man who uncovers a very worrying secrete when he meets the family to his white girlfriend. Similarly, the issue of racism is raised in one of the course readings, Our Demand Is Simple. Stop Killing Us, an article by Jay Caspian Kang. On the other hand, The Warmth of Other Suns, a story by Isabel Wilkerson also chronicles a story that revolves around racial issues evidenced in the decades-long migration black citizens. According to the author, the black citizens moved from the South to the western and northern cities in search for a better life. From these texts, it is clear that the issue of racism is not only a menace in but also a controversial issue that continues to exist even in the 21st century. Therefore, this research will seek to explore the extent of racism among the whites while at the same time establishing the various factors influencing its prevalence.
Moreover, I consider exploring the issue of racism among the whites to be of my interest since most of the course materials point out to the same. I am investing more time on this topic to discover reasons why racism still subsists and why it seems to escalate in America. Most importantly, I believe that this research will serve a significant purpose in providing a fundamental basis through which various issues related with racism among the whites can be assessed and evaluated effectively. Besides, this research will offer me an opportunity to explore a topic I believe to be of my interest and make necessary references with the course content. In doing so, I will be able to have a better mastery of the course and most importantly, the various aspects related with the issue of racism. Moreover, the findings from this research will also play a significant role towards defining a new framework on how the issues of racism can be addressed. I utterly believe that having an opportunity to conduct this research through detailed analysis of various texts related with my topic of interest will be of value-added contribution towards my already existing knowledge on the topic.
Moreover, for the general effectiveness of the study, this research will seek to answer a research question; one that will form the foundation of the entire project. More specifically, this study will seek to answer the following research question;
