Prevention of Bullying in Schools

Bullying in simple terms refers to the deliberate victimization of individuals by others who deem themselves superior. It is a demeaning act whose ramifications far and wide cause psychological, emotional and at times physical torment. Curbing bullying in schools is the collective responsibility of all the players of the school’s running but more primarily, the task is bestowed upon the parents and administration of the schools. One of the most efficient ways of preventing this vice is by enacting strict rules against the perpetrators of the rule. This measure warns that dire consequences will be faced by students should they dare to bully others.

            It is equally important to enlighten students on the importance of respecting their peers regardless of their ages or inabilities. The virtue of being respectful should be demonstrated by their elders as a blueprint after which the students will follow. The sole importance of education is to produce honorable men and women, therefore, students can be appreciated in form of gifts for showing outstanding respect. In so doing, it is unlikely to nurture students who bully.

Stakeholders, Objectives and Evaluation of the Effort’s Effectiveness

            The government’s department on education, school administration, teaching and non-teaching staff, parents and students are all stakeholders in depressing bullying. However, the initial participant is the administration, parents and teachers. These groups should assess the environments in which the students are raised, the possible reasons why bullying occurs and the effect of bullying on their students. With this information, it is easier to tackle issues such unequitable sharing of resources among student and mental/psychological distress.

            Evaluation can be checked by checking the performance of sample of students who had been victims of bullying. If an improvement in their classwork, health or attitudes are noted, then it is likely that bullying indeed reduced.

Assessment of the Effort in Respect to the Population

            The program in question is a largely a rehabilitative program that seeks to reduce bullying. There exists an array of materials that are required in executing this including pamphlets, labor, presents for students and stationary. In tracking the progress of the program, it is critical to gather data on students involved in bulling (the bullied and bullies), information on how this has affected students and data concerning disciplinary actions taken on unruly students over the last five years. Most of this data can be collected by interviewing the administrations of schools and looking into teachers records on students’ performance.

                        It is clear that with consistent monitoring of student behavior coupled with a keen and dedicated counselling bullying went down significantly. The enactment of strict rules against bullying was also a major cause for students to conform to the habit of being respectful, and where a problem arose, students would confidently stand up and point bullies. The portrayal of remarkable improvement in student performance as evidenced by good academic and extra-curricular activities was an indication of change of attitude and betterment of learning environment. This approach is therefore a long term solution in curbing bullying.

Case Study

Factors influencing the health of the Society

            The psychological factors affecting the health of these individuals is the high mortality and premature child birth rates, and low incomes. The environment in which these individuals live in predisposes them to breathing complications due to the industries and other hazards that may cause physical injury at the mines. Ringworms are a biological factor that influences the health of the society. The socio-cultural practice of seeking medical advice from an untrained herbalist could also risk their health. It has also been highlighted that these groups of people has a behavior of seeking the services of a faith healer at the expense of seeing trained personnel. This practice is a risk to their health.

Assets that may be used in Problem Resolution

            The biggest asset that can be used to reduce these people’s health problem is their unity. The society shares a wide range of beliefs, which is constructively channeled, would enable them develop hospitals and other social amenities. There is also considerable income generated from minerals and agricultural produce. When traded profitably, and in a unified fashion, it is likely that beneficial projects can arise from these trades. However, a certain level of financial literacy should be taught to the residents.

Population Nursing Diagnoses from Data

            The first diagnosis to note from the community is the predisposal of individual, especially those who are the backbone of the region’s economy, to health hazards. It is true to mention that cases of injured laborers definitely arise constantly since protective clothing may be expensive to purchase or maintain. The other point is one the number of women who have premature births. This could be an indication of poor diet, mental unfitness or too much workload in the quest to provide food for their families. It is reported that children succumb to anemia and pinworms. There are also many cases of tuberculosis reported in the community.   

Three Critical Health Problems Present

            Hazardous working conditions, childhood infections and prevalence of tuberculosis are the three most salient health issues in this society. Working conditions that make workers prone to injuries and death means that fewer people will be present to take care of the families in a generally poor society. For children, these conditions predispose them to a high mortality rate, creating an imbalanced society in future that has more dependents that independents. Tuberculosis has a direct impact on everyone’s life but particularly the unborn children and their mothers. These problems have a more detrimental impact on society in comparison to others.

            Given the low financial income of the communities, it is likely that priorities are bound to be affected. For instance, it is likely that a family buys food that is of little nutritional value and visits a faith healer which is also likely to be a cheaper form of curing disease.

Proposed Health Care Program

            The proposed healthcare program is concerned with the working conditions of manual laborers. This is a preventive measure. The people at stake include the government, owners of mines and the employees. Government ensures that the policies enacted are followed and given the full shield of the law. Owners are also influenced to understand the importance and repercussions of employing without safety measures while workers are the recipients of the care.

            Community participation is obtained through dialogues and public speaking. This interaction causes society to understand the importance of prevention and safety when working at the mines. Additional information about the program can be obtained from other successful studies carried out for a similar scenario. Such information could be useful in learning about compensation for dangerous working environments and how to increase productivity with minimum predisposition to hazardous environments. The goal of the project is to find a level ground for employers and employees in defining ample working conditions that are free of danger.

            The resources needed for the program include backing from legal personnel, data collection and keeping equipment and negotiation skills.

Gaining Acceptance of the Program

            The process of gaining acceptance to this initiative is one that requires authorization from the legal fraternity and most importantly, financial backing from donors and other supporters. Gaining acceptance, in its core, also involves obtaining goodwill from stakeholders within the charity and religious domains. Therefore, there is need for express authorization from government departments dealing with licensing these activities. The ministry of interior, for instance, provides approval of whether we meet the requirements of non-government institutions. One of the key requirements for authorization is registration of the organization.

Implementation of the program

            Implementation is simply putting to practice the plan developed for the project. It is the most important aspect of the program and fulfills its mandate. The first step of implementation involves hiring relevant personnel to facilitate the program. These persons include both professional and unskilled personnel. Among the most inherent tasks for the skilled personnel includes administering guidance and counselling, drugs and handling eventualities. Unskilled labor tasks would include communicating from a community level and mitigating language barrier and most importantly, transportation. The next important step is to acquire the tools of service required. These include stationary and health equipment. Implementation is finally effected by developing an evaluation plan that tracks the progress of the program.

Outcome and Process Evaluation

            Process evaluation depicts the outcome of the entire project. One of the most basic yet effective form of evaluation is recording feedback from clients and the employees on task. These records could take the form of an online form or a gadget that records feedback of service as either good, excellent or unsatisfactory. The reception to treatment and advice by the community is also a great way to evaluate the program’s success. The importance of evaluation is to obtain a point of reference in future case studies.
