Subject: Request to Hire New Workers in the Maintenance Crew

Five previous workers in the maintenance crew last week were injured from an accident when going for a business trip. One of them was the head of the maintenance crew and has been supervising the whole crew for four years. This is why I am requesting that you hire other staff temporary for the six staff will not be there for at least 6 months. There has not been enough manpower since they left and this is greatly affecting the production and delivery promises made by the company. The establishment and maintenance of good client relationships  has reduced. This has led to reduced sales and overall profit reduction. Since the accident of the few staff members, the level of meeting the promises made to the customers has been low. The result is the company suffering from penalties and fines which obviously have kept the amount of profit made a bit lower.

The other thing that I have observed is that there is less accountability to the workers who are left without supervision. There is need to get the maintenance crew a new supervisor for proper supervision and make use of the available man power at the moment. The reduction of the number of staff has led to lesser options in which the other employees operate. There is no flexibility in terms of which the rest of the employees cover all the shifts or even forgetting enough employees to fill. The schedule has become a little bit tight and there are no enough employees to team of workers that would otherwise have provided a range of skills, knowledge and abilities which would have been used in tackling the current problems that the company is facing. Shortage of new perspectives and ideas has been observed, more staff would lead to an easier time and the remaining would be used for innovation and competitive tasks.

Hiring these new staff will mean that workers will work for a less over time. the workload assigned to them will be appropriate for there will be sufficient persons to handle it. This will in turn reduce stressing the workers and they will hence remain more alert and rested. There will also be prevention of problems such as injury, burnouts, lawsuits and employee compensation. The more the number of workers we acquire, the more the company’s projects will be accomplished at a higher rate and also take on other projects. According to the current departmental budget, the company can afford to hire new employees.

Any extra expenses of the new employees will be covered in the increased profit that will be obtained due to increased man power. The profit that will be yielded I believe will be able to cover for the staffing costs. Failure to recruit new employees will lead to a significant slowdown in the maintenance crew department and in the crew at large.  As a matter of fact, the deadlines given by the customers will not be met and the company will have to face the fines and penalties that come with it. Failure to approve my request will have an impact the image of the company for failing to meet the consumers’ satisfaction.
