Hurricane Harvey

For this assignment I chose to use the images displayed at the museum. In particular, the images taken on the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. The environment was damaged and the agricultural sector took the greatest hit. People lost their crop, they lost their houses and generally, the land was left with nothing in good shape. It is an incident that uprooted the lives of many people completely. Usually, when it happens to only a small number of people, it is easy to recover. Therefore, the people who were affected by Hurricane Harvey may never fully recover given the extensiveness of the damage that was caused. It was related to the ecological aspect of natural disasters where the environment through natural action damages itself. People were left homeless which automatically triggers people to make the environment dirtier for having no access to toilets, good garbage collection structures and proper drainages. This kind of incident often exposes people to illnesses caused by hygiene issues on top of people being rendered homeless unexpectedly. However, these are all manmade problems because nature often responds to the atrocities committed against it. The level of global warming today is responsible for the changes that are seen in the environment today. These effects often trickle down to people in one way or another and in the case of the people of Houston, hurricane Harvey came down on them. The pictures taken of the damage show a community that has to start from the bottom to rebuild their lives, build schools, hospitals and other social structures from scratch because even the buildings that were left standing cannot be used in their present condition. The pictures of people looking over their damaged property speaks despair and hopelessness. It was a devastating event in the lives of the people of Houston.
