The dictionary definition of a hero is an individual, who is well-liked or idealized for bravery, exceptional achievements, or dignified qualities whereas that of a celebrity is famous individual who is well known. This person might be a VIP, a movie superstar, a sports celebrity, a newsmaker including many others. Presently, different cultures in the world point to distinct characteristics of heroes and celebrities leading to the emergence of fictitious heroes and celebrities. As opposed to real heroes and celebrities, the fictitious lots do not earn their state. They take advantage of emerging situations and events to present themselves to be recognized as heroes and celebrities.
According to Jeffers list of heroes, one category of real heroes are the nation builders. These people have steered their nations to independence and promoted peaceful leadership in their countries. Among these most notable individuals would include Simon Bolivar who led Latin America’s fight for independence from the colonial Spain. Additionally, Mahtma Gandhi drove India to attaining self-rule. Similarly, Lech Wasea steered Poland towards a democratic state using his influence as the trade union leader. . Richard Byrd explored both the Antarctic and Arctic circles, considered as one of the most splendid attainments. I find these people to depict the characteristics of real heroes. They made measurable steps in their areas or countries.
According to the dictionary, a fictitious substance is something developed or assumed for concealment sake. A fictitious hero is a state achieved with a concealment objective having been unqualified. For instance, the article describes the awarding of passive war participants like politicians and generals who play a passive role in war achievements in US military highest awards. These are the policy makers who have indirect impact of the successes in war. I find these to be unsatisfactory awards that should have fallen on the hands of ground soldiers are consistently unrecognized. Fictitious heroes would be categorized at the same level as a comic book hero who is both non-existent and imaginary. These are characters created to represent former real heroes (Schmitt, Schmitt and Mann 203).
Celebrities seek to separate themselves from the crowd. This might happen as a result of an extraordinary event or event. Real celebrities work hard for their state and do not merely appear to them. For instance, Richard Branson the Virgin Airlines owner has through hard work branded himself as a renowned businessperson. His achievements are tangible and visible, and have been attained through hard work. David Beckham among the most popular human brands is known to spend a lot of time endorsing products and forfeiting his privacy to the photographers. This represents some real celebrities who have worked their way above the celebrity ladder through sacrifice and hard work (Schmitt, Schmitt and Mann 193).
Fictitious celebrities become famous through ingenuity. For example, Paris Hilton along with TV reality shows cast members represent some of the perfect illustrations of fictitious celebrities who rely on gossip magazines, websites and entertainment programs to sustain them on the public list of celebrities. An additional example as indicated in the article is the balloon boy story which featured in Colorado and that acquired unessential celebrity coverage. This happened through false-fueled reasons so to promote their self-proclaimed scientific state.
The
world’s perpetual desire for celebrities and heroes has led to creation of
self-proclaimed heroes and celebrities. These are groups that seek to acquire
fame through the easy and simple means since they cannot cope with the hard
work required to achieve the state of real hero and celebrity. This shows the
modern person’s obsession with easily acquired and effortless fame. I salute
the real heroes and celebrities, and the society must protect their
achievements by disregarding the imposters.
