HBIPS Guideline

Question 1

Hospital-Based Inpatient Psychiatric Services or HBIPS has recently offered nationally accessible core guidelines created in accordance to Joint Commission ORYX evaluation/reporting system. Question 3

Patients admitted into a hospital oriented inpatient psychiatric environment are required to be screened within the initial three admission days. Considerable evidence exists regarding the heightened prevalence of recurring substance usage disorders in addition to history of trauma amongst individuals admitted into acute psychiatric facilities (The Joint Commission, 2014). Professional literature indicates that these elements are under-acknowledged yet they are integral to present psychiatric status and require to be assessed so as to generate suitable treatment.  Likewise, patients admitted within an inpatient setting need a careful evaluation of risk towards violence. Careful evaluations are crucial to safety along with treatment. Effectual personalized treatment depends on evaluations which explicitly identify a patient’s strengths. The strengths could be characteristic of the patients themselves, family provided support or support provided a patient’s community or cultural setting (The Joint Commission, 2014).

Question 4

According to joint commission (2012) the screening conducted within the first three days provides better conclusion to ascertain the specific kind of treatment to be extended to the patient. I find this test carried out in the first three days as being insufficient in determining the patient’s treatment approach. This is because some patients within the initial three days might conceal some particular tendencies due for instance fear, uncertainty of the new setting and so on (Joint Commission, 2012). It is somewhat difficult to measure the support provided by the patient’s family or community in a short time. Though it is important to assess the said elements on admission the immediate results should only determine the immediate treatment whilst follow up treatments give the long term treatment method.

Question 5

It is absolutely essential to extend the admission evaluation since for a long time it has been overlooked when admitting patients. This has resulted to the wrong treatments being administered to the patients during the initial stages (Joint Commission, 2013). This criteria has therefore enabled the physicians extend the right treatment to new entrants immediately.  Additionally research has indicated that since this criterion began being utilized the staffs have been more secure of any attacks from the patients. Also the patients security has been improved since the staffs understand how well to deal with them. Nevertheless, I believe that this should be a continuous procedure whereby evaluations are performed continuously to locate any hidden elements.
