A Letter to the Instructor

I would like to address my improvements in this semester. I feel that I have been able to locate my strengths and at the same time reduce weaknesses as a writer. For instance at the beginning of the semester I had weaknesses in starting essays and structuring the body. Nevertheless, after writing so many essays throughout the semester involving my very interesting topics of literature including world issues, I have been able to polish my writing skills significantly. Sometimes back I would be allocated an essay in class, this would scare me at the however, currently I know that after tackling the introduction properly am confident to continue, through to the end by making my thoughts flow in the essay. Throughout the semester, I have been able to trace my weaknesses in essay writing such as the usage of tenses, adjectives including others.

Essay writing has given me more chances to express my opinion more clearly and influentially. I have learnt that to be good writer one must be a good reader; this helps to be acquainted with various writing styles. Additionally, I have realized that I must study cautiously the grammar structures, for instance, varieties of sentences, categories of clauses along with punctuations. An example of this, if we disregard punctuation usage between two parts of sentences, audiences cannot recognize what we write.

I credit my improvement greatly to my instructor who has assisted me realize my weaknesses and ways of retrieving my strengths. In absence of this help, perhaps I would have remained in my cocoon of fear and low self-confidence regarding essay writing. I am particularly pleased with my ability to write original personal narratives, argumentative essay and responding to other persons writings. For personal narratives, which requires total innovativeness was among the most interesting abilities I did not know I could exercise and score a good score. I have learnt that writing a good essay entails presenting thoughts in a logical manner in each stage, presenting thoughts transparently and convincingly.

Responding to essays written by my course mates was something I can do particularly well right now. Initially I could read an essay and when asked to give my views regarding it, all I could do is saying it is good. However, currently I can both identify an essay’s weaknesses, strengths, and support and criticize it. I can analyze an essay to the instructor’s satisfaction.

This improvement has also been enabled by the support by the members of the class. Through constant consultation, we have assisted each other by locating our essay writing strengths and providing moral support. As a result, I would like to encourage students to assist each other during studies since that is what the instructor likes and is happy about. I have learnt that helping each other goes along towards unleashing ones capabilities.

Thus, I can confidently say that this semester has been the most enlightening time of my studies since from now onwards, that is, the succeeding semesters I will be able to present my thoughts in an articulate manner with confidence. In future am also ready to assist those students who could be experiencing the same problems, I was facing of failing to identify my capabilities. My instructor in future should expect very god essays since am prepared to score highly.
