Understanding Earthquakes and Tsunamis

Watching the video footage of the tsunami/earthquake survivors was heartbreaking, watching what the survivors saw and experienced was horrendous a panel of foul, darkened seawater immersing the city, scouring the entire infrastructure, cars, houses along with their loved ones away. This experience does not only teach the how destructive a tsunami can be but also shows how life is short and people are always ready to offer assistance. I got nothing but respect to the survivors, the people who helped the survivors in rebuilding and cleaning up the area along with the dead. The survivors had a massive task for looking for their missing family members while searching for them in the ruined homes and towns, which were claimed by the horrific sea.

A tsunami or a tidal wave is additionally referred to as a seismic sea wave. Tsunami is a sequence of waves in a water body, which is triggered by the displacement of a huge volume of water, normally in a big lake or an ocean (Bryant, E. 2014). Volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and other underwater disturbances and explosions below and above water all have the potential to bring about a tsunami (Bolt. et al., 2013). Dissimilar to the normal ocean waves that are caused by tides and wind, which are spawned by the gravitational pull of the sun and Moon.

The tsunami waves are not similar to sea currents or normal undersea currents since the length of their wave is longer (Constantin, A. 2011). Instead of resembling as a breaking wave, a tsunami may seem to be a rapidly rising tide. Due to this reason, the tsunami is also referred to as a “tidal wave”; however, scientific researchers do not favour it since it might give the wrong view of the relationship between tsunamis and tides and tsunamis. Tsunamis comprise of a sequence of waves, with intervals varying from minutes to hours, coming in an “internal wave train (Dupuy, J. P. 2015).
