Strategy Change at the Head of the Virtual Police Department VBBC Task Force

The Virtual Police Department has been facing the problem of gang violence for a long time. One of the heinous gangs the department has been trying to defeat in the community is the society is the Very Bad Bike Club. To attain this goal, the police department formed a task force called the Virtual Police Department VBBC task force whose role was to come up with strategies that would be used to fight the Very Bad Bike Club.

The task force has been facing numerous problems caused by the Very Bad Bike Club. The gang has been committing violence crimes in the community hence increasing the crime rate at a very high rate. The police department has evidence showing that the Very Bad Bike Club has been committing violent crimes such as violent rapes, robberies, kidnappings, and carjacking. These crimes have been happening randomly and it is becoming very hard for the people in the society to go on with their normal lives. The judicial justice system has also noticed that when the members of the Very Bad Bike Club have been successfully convicted they continue their activities in prisons. This has made it very hard for the prison authorities to maintain law and order in their institutions (Dawson & Stanko, 2015). It is obvious that the current strategies employed by the police department to deal with the Very Bad Bike Club have failed miserably and time has come to task force to come up with new strategies aimed at fighting the gang.

Currently, the department is using traditional investigative strategies in their fight against the gang. The strategies are reactionary in nature where they wait for a crime to be committed and then investigations are launched to resolve the crime and punish the perpetrators. The department has also increased the number of police officers patrolling the streets in a bid to deter would be criminals from committing crimes in their jurisdiction. This also has not been successful in reducing crime rate in the area. The police do have a good working relationship with the community (Dawson & Stanko, 2015). This strategy involves honest members of the society informing the police about suspicious members of the community and the police follow up all tips reported to them. Even though this strategy has helped arrest some members of the Very Bad Bike Club, the rate of crime has not reduced significantly.

Even though the strategies used by the police department have been a failure, there has been a high reluctance to change the operations. Both high level and low ranking officers have resisted change in the department making it hard for them to combat crimes committed by the gangs. One reason change has been resisted is many police officers fear losing control and power they are holding in the current system. Police officers understand that changes may interfere with their and this may make some of them lose change interferes with autonomy and can make people feel that they have lost control over their territory (Dawson & Stanko, 2015). This has been identified as the main reason why change has been resisted in the police department. Lack of resources is also another reason why the department has been slow in effecting change in the way they deal with Very Bad Bike Club. To be able to combat the gang, the police department should invest heavily in new and modern police investigation strategies that rely on technology to combat crime. This would help them have watertight cases against Very Bad Bike Club members who commit crimes in the community. Another reason why change has been resisted in the police department is the fear of uncertainty that is brought about by change. Many people fear heading into unchartered territories because they do not know how things might turn out.

Nevertheless, it is important for the department to effect change of strategy if they are to defeat Very Bad Bike Club. This can be attained by motivating the officers to accept change and help fight crime in the area (Dawson & Stanko, 2015). One thing that can motivate the police to accept change is by coming up with a new training program that should inculcate the police officers that the changes that are about to be introduced will not threaten their jobs in anyway but to actually help them perform their jobs more efficiently (Weisburd, Bushway, Lum, &Yang, 2014). The department should also bring about a reward system that seeks to reward all officers that successfully investigate crimes committed by the Very Bad Bike Club members. This will motivate the officers to accept the new strategies in the fight against the gang.

From the discussion above, it is evident that the Virtual Police Department should work extra hard to fight this gang. They should come up with new strategies that will allow them to use the technological devices in the fight against crimes committed by Very Bad Bike Club members. They should also seek to infiltrate the gangs by having some officers working undercover to help them understand how the gang works. This is important as it will play a major role in preventing the crimes before they happen.
