Nekyelle Sumrall’s Post

An operational plan offers a snapshot of the way a team, organization, or group will work together and plan to achieve a goal. The plan itself should align with the organization’s strategic plan. The strategic plan offers a big picture of the goals of the organization and the operational plan can break down into how the organization plans to achieve some of those goals. The plan helps to define the goals, how the organization will get there, as well as what materials are needed to get there. The general idea of what is included in an operational plan is specific goals, actions require to achieve the goals, resources both human resource wise and budget wise required and finally an indication of how long it will take (Operational Plan).

My CLC plan is the implementation of a new community health program so the operational plan is an important piece. The plan allows us to break down the process of training, purchasing, and using the software as well as a time span to complete all the actions. Each employee will need to be trained to use all the programs and management will need to manage the change to ensure there are no glitches in the system or with in the patients care. By planning out each step of this process it allows the team to be fully aware of the expectations and what is to come during what can be a potentially stressful period.

Hello Nekylle,

Your post is awesome! Congratulations. From your post, I draw that an operational plan is a guide map from where the organization and its teams borrow inspiration and guidance in their pursuit of goals. Mans, Van der Aalst, and Vanwersch (2015), explain that there are need to tie the time aspects to such plans. With this in mind, it is clear that the organization should be allowed to have their resources and capabilities harnessed into one document that guides how things will be run on a daily basis.

 Robert Davison’s Post

I found the following information on the topic of Operational Plans which is relevant to any operational plan in order for it to be successful. The level of detail and formality of the Operational Plan is going to vary depending on the size and complexity of the project, therefore there could be very little or a lot that is implicated with determining what is involved.  Risk Assessment, Financial requirements, stakeholder’s priorities, Equity, Socio-cultural issues and gender are all a part of the process. The most important part of determining the Operational Plan of a business is to think about the long-term future of the business. Therefore, it is important to think about the estimate of the project lifespan, sustainability and exit strategies. There are also many broad things to consider when shaping an Operational plan which include the following:

1.      Opening and Closing Time Ordering and Purchasing

2.      Opening and Closing Procedures Security

3.      Staffing and resource requirements Human resource management

4.      Incident Management Advertising and Marketing

5.      Risk Management Clear objectives

6.      Calendar of events A process for monitoring progress (Mace, 2104, para, 5).

After evaluating and comparing our operational plan for the implementation of a new EMR system within our CLC project to the information I found above, I would have to say that all the key points were that were included in our project from risk assessment / SWOT analysis, our  financial requirements for the procurement of equipment and training expenses, Equity, Socio-cultural and the 6 points that were mentioned in order to shape the operational plan compare to the information that is required.  According to the article I found, the most important part of the process is the long-term aspects of any project which we also took into consideration as technology is constantly changing and upgrades would be necessary as needed as with any technological service or apparatus that is utilized to serve the general public.

Response to Robert Davidson

Hello Robert,

Your post is exhaustive and well-articulated, congratulations! You have explained that there are different dimensions from which the operational plan should be looked at, including risks, finances, stakeholder priorities and equity and socio-cultural aspects. According to Nilashi et al. (2016), technological factors should too be considered to ensure that internal operations are seamless and compatible with the outside. Your risk assessment tool, the SWOT analysis should stretch to the future.
