Everyone wishes to live in a healthy environment. This is an element that can only be achieved after individuals assume the role of protecting the environment. There are a number of simple actions, which may be applied in real life situations, and will play significant roles in the protection of the environment. For instance, the contemplation of individuals deciding to cycle or walk to their workplaces, the application of reusable bags, and recycling are some of the practices every individual can assume in ensuring the environment is protected. The organizational approach applied is the use of the inductive method, as it will direct the exhaustion of all the ideas surrounding the three practices to be considered by individuals, in meeting their roles of protecting the environment.

There are numerous institutions formed with the purpose of educating the general public of the need to protect the environment. Most of them advance the knowledge of appreciating the gifts of nature and applying appropriate measures to ensure the environment is protected. This is an element only achieved if every individual assumes a role in protecting the environment. The protection of nature and the environment around is an aspect necessitated by the increasing social and health issues arising from the polluted environment. Most of the pollutions come from locomotives, the disposal of plastic materials, and the inappropriate use of local resources. An analysis of the different levels of environmental footprints presents the need of every person playing a role in protecting the environment. A perfect example is in the United States, where 40% of its environs are polluted (Fullerton & West, 2010). It translated to the residents being prone to health hazards, from the polluted nature of their environment.

The assessment of the significance of a healthy environment drives the understanding of the need for all individuals to have active roles in protecting the environment. Every individual has the capability of considering the utilization of the reusable bags, alternative means of travelling, and recycling non-decomposable materials. The first role of every person in protecting the environment is utilizing the reusable bags. It means the bags can be used for different purposes over time. Through their reuse, the environment will be protected as the levels of pollution from will be minimized. Over the last three decades, there was a rise in the use of plastic grocery bags. They would only be used once; after which they were disposed into pits. The end result was the plastic bags polluting the environment. As much as plastic bags were on the rise, their pollution effects were counted by the development and use of reusable and decomposable organic bags. Every individual has a role of protecting the environment by also reusing the available bags. In the United States, the active roles of individuals applying the use of the reusable bags as a way of protecting the environment have seen a reduction of pollution to 5%. Therefore, the setting of policies banning the use of the plastic paper bags, and advocating for all citizens to have active roles in applying the use of the reusable plastic bags has been a helpful practice to protect the environment.

The second role of individuals in protecting the environment is recycling of materials rather than disposing of them. The assumption of active roles in recycling is an assurance of protecting the environment, as individuals will conserve materials, reduce the cases of landfill pollution, and minimize the hazardous effects originally arising from the materials disposed of in the environment. Pulido & Frank (2013), maintain that the enacting of policies on the recycling of materials rather than disposing into the environment accounted for a 60% decrease in the levels of environmental pollution in Texas. It is an indication Texas residents have active roles in recycling, an element enhancing the protection of the environment and reducing cases of pollution.

Most of the environmental pollution is caused by the use of automobiles and locomotives. The increased knowledge of the need to protect the environment has necessitated the need for individuals to reconsider the use of alternative means of transport. Individuals initiated initiatives of reconsidering the use of alternative means, the likes of walking and cycling. The assumption of alternative means to reduce pollution and protect the environment made the United States administration develop electric trains. According to Ogasa (2008), the roles of individuals to protect the environment through the use of alternative modes of transport plays an essential role in reducing the levels of pollution. The use of alternative transport methods has accounted for 33%, 40%, and 67% reduction of the organic compounds of nitrogen compounds, nitrogen compounds, and carbon monoxide (Qinglei, Mei, & Dashuai, 2008). California is a state appreciating the use of electric trains, contrary to the case in developing nations, using petroleum-based automobiles. The levels of pollution prove California citizens have assumed active roles in protecting the environment by using alternative means of transport.

In conclusion, the protection of the environment can only be achieved if every individual assumes an active role. There numerous practised which can guarantee the reduction of the levels of pollution and the protection of the environment. Practices such as recycling, the use utilization of organic reusable bags, and the use of alternative means of transport are effective in protecting the environment. Therefore, every individual has a role in protecting the environment.
