Comparing Romulus and Remus and the myth of Aeneas

Differences

The Romulus and Remus myth are considered to be the forefathers of Rome city. According to this myth, Romulus and Remus were twin brothers. The myth of Romulus and Remus stated that their mother Rhea Silvia was found to have violated her vows and king Amulius ordered them to be slain. Instead, the servant hid them in a small basket and took them to the Tiber River. It is believed that they were raised by a wolf which breastfed them until they were later adopted by a shepherd who raised them in a shepherding way (Leclerc and Wiseman 4). Romulus later killed his brother, Remus, over a row on where they should establish a new city. Romulus thus founded Rome.

On the other hand, the myth of Aeneas provides a different account of how Vergil was founded. The legend of Aeneas explains more about the formation of Vergil, which models the tale (Leclerc and Wiseman 6). He wandered from place to place, making a lot of sacrifices in search of destiny. With all the things he had to do and leave behind, he could still afford a compassionate and generous heart. On the other hand, the myth of Romulus and Remus is like an invention and a mythical tradition at the same time. Although Romulus rules wisely after the death of Remus, he lacks the divine standing of Aeneas.

Similarities

In both myths, the main characters attained their objectives by killing. There are sacrifices made for the respective individuals to have their will adhered to.

In conclusion, I prefer the story of Aeneas since it has a good standing. He showed his responsibility for the unborn generation by trying to create a favorable city for them. It affirms that life was created through hope as well as action and still acknowledges the sadness of life.
